This site is a place for me to blog about both my teaching practice and what’s going on with public education in our society, as well as to practice my web/tech skills. It’s about my passion for a great, albeit beleaguered profession.

I am Steve Pollock, a veteran of various positions in school districts in four states over the last 24 years. I am currently a guest teacher in the Metro Nashville Public Schools in Tennessee, while I await the upcoming fall term at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of Education, where I spend two years earning a second master’s degree and certification, this time in early childhood special education – autism and applied behavior therapy. I’m eager for August to get here so I can get to work.

I have a bachelor’s degree in English with a history minor (Cameron University of Oklahoma 1986) and a master’s degree in elementary education (University of Michigan Ann Arbor 2006). I am certified to teach K-8 in Michigan and California and will soon be in Tennessee as well. I also have California English Language Learner teaching credentials as well, which I will also transfer to Tennessee at some point.

I am a firm believer that ALL children, given equal access to quality public education, can learn. I am a teacher, mentor, writer, and communications professional with 24 years of progressive experience. I am particularly passionate about kids, public education, and the appropriate uses of technology.

I work hard to prepare students for a literate and rich future. I am dedicated to bringing together communities of teachers, learners, leaders and parents. I believe in helping create simple, clear, direct and honest communications and learning channels between schools and communities using inexpensive technology, building mutual support and trust for our primary mission — the education of children.
